Scissors
| Buying
decorative scissors |
-
Think about what you are
going to be using the scissors for before you run out and buy
all of them. A mini-scallop is great for a baby book. The
Deckle is the undisputed favorite for Heritage Albums and old
photos. In general, girls albums lend themselves to the more
delicate scissors while boys albums need a bold scissor.
-
Keep in mind that most of
the scissors are made by the same company and private labeled.
So watch for the lowest price or a special feature. Family
Treasures makes an extra long blade that REALLY makes a
difference when you sue the scissors a lot.

| Using decorative
scissors |
- When using a pair of decorative scissors cut
almost to the end of the blade but do NOT cut to the end of the blade,
it will create a small tear.
- When cutting a rectangle or square. Cut the first
side, then to make the next cut, carefully line up the scissors to
match the pattern before cutting again. At corners, pay attention to
how the corner will look as you begin the second side. Do the same for
each new side you begin, it makes a BIG difference.
- Always move the paper and hold the scissors in
one place.
- Before you begin to cut out a shape with
decorative scissors cut away most of the excess first, it will make
cutting much easier.
- If you are cutting a shape with a point (star) or
crevice (heart), use a pair of straight edge scissors to cut in to the
crevice or out from the point. It will help you get a much cleaner
cut.
