| Adding Color |
In addition to adding journalizing, pens and pencils are a great
way to decorate your album pages. Clip art can be traced on to
your pages and borders can be drawn using pens in many beautiful
colors and shades. Be sure to look for permanent, fade proof,
water resistant pens and pencils for your scrapbooking.

What Pen To Use |
It used to be easy, there was only one type of "safe"
scrapbooking pen that I knew of. Now, there are a multitude of
tips and colors so how do you decide what pen to use?
This scan of some samples of popular pens
will give you an idea of how the different pens look. (Please
note that the scan doesn't pick up light areas very well.)

and Pencils |
Craf-T Products* makes a chalk palette with 25 colors of chalks.
Rubber stampers have been using chalks for years, but I think
that chalk is an exciting medium for scrapbookers, too. I was
really excited to try them out.
ZIG has a line of Memory Pencils for
scrapbookers featuring three different sets. Primary colors,
Pastel colors and Earth Colors. Pencils are a great way to add
color with a softer look than pens. Again, I have
been anxious to see how they perform.
I used a Christmas Tree stamp from Stampin'
Up! to demonstrate how the chalks look and how the pencils look
side by side. Both examples are pretty, but each has its own
distinct look. The top sample is chalk and the bottom sample is
pencil. Remember that the images lose a little in scanning and
transferring to the Internet.

Again using the Craft-T Products* chalk palette I made a doodle
border of holly. After I finished the border I colored in the
holly and berries with chalk. You will notice that I did not
take a lot of time to make the chalk "perfect". The
color strays outside of the lines but I think that adds to the
charm of this art.
